October 12 - 13 - 14, 2023
Join Instructors Tomas Alvarez, and Jay Grammond for three days of chasing Waterfalls, Landscapes, and Fall Colors on Minnesota's beautiful North Shore. We will be based in the Grand Marais area. The North Shore is rich in beautiful waterfalls and landscapes, and we aim to help you capture that beauty.
Prior to October 12th, we will meet virtually via Zoom, to start to get to know each other; and go over what to expect for weather; ground conditions; melt off; gear, etc.
Thursday, October 12th: We'll gather at the Outpost Motel, do introductions, and head out to our first location for some landscape photography. This will be followed with dinner together somewhere local. After that, we will do some Night Sky photography over the lake!
Friday, October 13th: Today will be a full day of discovering waterfalls and landscapes. This area is full of so much potential for us. The day will start early with some Milky Way photography, over Lake Superior; followed by a Sunrise shoot at an iconic location. After this we'll grab some breakfast and head up the shore for some Waterfall photography. We'll explore the area for Landscapes and other opportunities before heading for lunch. After lunch, we are off for more adventures at some fantastic landscape and waterfalls spots. After a full day of adventuring, we will again have a dinner together at a very special local landmark. We will also attempt Sunset shots form this location; and, time and weather permitting we will try some more Night Sky Photography from the Headquarters (Optional.)
Saturday, October 14th: On this final morning together, we will do one more Sunrise shoot, followed by breakfast (optional). After breakfast, we will hit another great spot before parting ways. (optional.)
About 3 weeks later, we will have a reunion via Zoom to go over editing images, and revisit the fun times had.
Early Bird Pricing (through September 7) is $800 Plus Fees; Pricing from September 8, 2023 until the event is $950 Plus fees. Transportation/Meals are NOT included in the fee. I am a professional photographer based out of Minnesota. I bought my first camera 42 years ago; and after doing photography on the side for most of that time; decided to make the leap of faith from an award winning career in Lifelong Learning to become a full time photographer in January of 2020!
I operate photography workshops in the West and Midwest. I took the reigns of an annual event called the Black Hills Photo Shootout in 2019 and have been organizing that for the past five years. It is a weekend of photography in the Black Hills with multiple instructors in multiple locations. In my time running this event, I have worked with Keynote speakers like: Joel Grimes, Darrell Gulin, and Erik Kuna. In 2020, I organized a very successful multi-week on-line photography event for the Black Hills Photo Shootout. In 2021, I started to offer my "Adventure" Workshops in locations like Theodore Roosevelt NP; Badlands NP; and the Bighorn Mountains. Other Adventure Workshops include: Minnesota (Lake Superior's North Shore); South Dakota (Toy Photography | Art of the Harvest.)
Beginning in 2020, I started to offer on-line photography, history, and travel presentations to adult audiences across Minnesota. I also organized on-line photography education classes for people across the country with photographers Charlie Borland, and Tomas Alvarez. On one of the last days of 2020, I offered a free on-line discussion called "An Evening of Gratitude" where I interviewed Scott Kelby about all the good things that came out of 2020.
I was fortunate to have been featured in Photoshop User Magazine (Dec 2021); have been interviewed on several podcast episodes; and - I published my first book, "Fading Ads Of The Twin Cities" in February of 2022. Tomas Alvarez and I started a podcast called "The Creative's Moment" in the Fall of 2022.
I hope that you can join us in Minnesota! Jay
