Join Professional Photographers Erik Kuna and Jay Grammond for a fantastic opportunity to learn and create Epic images of twilight and Sunrise, as well as the Milky Way on "The Other side" of Badlands National Park, an "otherworldly setting" We will be Headquartered at the fabulous: Circle View Guest ranch.
One month out: registrants will join Erik & Jay for an hour long on-line planning session where we will go over the gear, equipment and tools we'll need to set ourselves up for success in the Badlands. This will be a great opportunity to learn what it takes to plan to capture amazing images. We'll also have a half-hour Q&A session to go over any questions.
One week out: Before we head out for the Adventure, we'll have another hour long on-line planning session where we'll look closer at the weather, forecasts and trends to set ourselves up for success once we get there. Again, you'll also start to learn the tools the pros use to get those award winning shots. It is really not as hard as you think, but this will help you to get up to speed fast and cut out years of the pain and suffering that we typically go through in our first years of getting into this style of photography.
Tuesday the 26th: we'll meet up in the afternoon at our home base: Circle View Guest Ranch. There, we will have a welcome session where we'll update everyone on current conditions, what adjustments we might make due to weather. We have planned this workshop at the ideal time, so we'll be able to capture stunning images, but sometimes we will have to adjust and chase the light based on changing conditions. But never fear, we'll always have you in the best spots for the images. After an optional Dinner, we will head out and at an ideal overlook to capture a Sunset, then prepare for twilight, and right into the Milky Way. This first night will be about keeping it simple, we'll go to one location and just master our exposures together. This will set us up for success over the following nights. We'll wrap it up before midnight and head back to the ranch.
Wednesday: Rise & Shine! We are going out to capture something that few people can, a very thin crescent moon at twilight rising over the badlands! Once the sun comes out, that moon will fade quickly, and pretty much disappear, but we will be in prime position to capture it before that happens. Once we hit sunrise and the light starts to turn, we'll head back to the ranch for an amazing breakfast. After breakfast it will be time to edit, explore, or catch up on sleep! We'll grab an optional lunch somewhere nearby, and then have editing sessions in the late afternoon. We encourage you to lay low during these mid-day hours and save energy for later on. After Dinner, we'll head out into the Badlands and work on incorporating the rocks and landscapes into out foregrounds. Building off our work from the night before, we'll start blending twilight and night exposures to create a more compelling landscape. from there, we'll dive into a new kind of light painting later in the night. Once we are done, we'll head back to the ranch.
Thursday: Remember that crescent moon in the morning? It's pretty much gone now but we've hit the peak days of the workshop. The holy grail. the new moon. basically, the moon is not visible in the night's sky. This morning, we will focus on sunrise over the badlands. Since we were out late last night, it's up to you if you want to attend. once the light turns from golden light to daylight, we will head back to the ranch for breakfast. After breakfast it will be time to edit, explore, or catch up on sleep! We'll grab an optional lunch somewhere nearby, and then have editing sessions in the late afternoon. We encourage you to lay low during these mid-day hours and save energy for later on. After dinner, for those that are interested, we'll work on a sunset to twilight timelapse to capture that transition and rising. we will head up to a super dark overlook to get those super wide expansive views of the Milky Way. there will be some star trackers available tonight if you want to take things a step further and learn how to track the milky way. Since it is the new moon, this is our late night.
Friday: There will be another optional sunrise out in the park. We will then do some photographic searching for wildlife and other elements that we can put into our scene. After that it's back to the ranch for breakfast! Again, this will be time to lay low, edit, explore or catch up on sleep. We'll grab an optional lunch then in the late afternoon, we'll have another editing session if you wish to do so. you can also nap! After dinner, we'll be putting it all together. We'll head out at sunset to try to get the crescent moon, which is now back in the sky. We will try to catch it setting this time. Then, we'll go to a secret location to use all the skills we have developed to capture a WOW worthy image. then back to the ranch.
Saturday: One last optional sunrise, hunting the light and the location based on everything we learned during the workshop. Once we are done with that, we'll have a quick "farewell/until next time" session, and then go our separate ways.
Two Weeks after the workshop: That's not all! We will do an hour long on-line editing session where we'll go over the post production to make the most of your images. This way if you didn't edit during the workshop or have questions in post after the workshop it will give us time to discuss.
